Reggie Fils-Amie is retiring as president of Nintendo

In a video that Nintendo posted around social media today, it was announced that Reggie Fils-Amie, the president of Nintendo of America, will be retiring in April. This is incredibly sad news for Nintendo fans everywhere, including myself. It is no secret to anyone, even those who are not Nintendo fans, that Reggie has been one of the most beloved people at Nintendo for a long time, up there with Shigeru Miyamoto and Satoru Iwata. It is very uncertain if this will have any long term effects on the company or not, but I guess we will have to wait to find out.

According to Reggie, he will be stepping away to be with his family more and to enjoy the time off. Reggie is retiring after a run of 15 years as the president. To me that honestly seems crazy since it means Reggie has been the president for over half my lifetime. I didn’t even realize there had BEEN another president because Reggie is just that iconic. Reggie will be handing over the position of president to Doug Bowser. According to Reggie is already known as a large driving force inside of Nintendo. He also mentioning that Doug already has a strong relationship with Shuntaro Furukawa, the current overall President of Nintendo.

Upon the end of the video Reggie mentioned that his body was still ready and that he may be dropping the title of President of Nintendo of America, but he will be retaining another, Nintendo fan. Reddie will be passing the torch over to Doug in April and I hope Doug is ready, he has some big shoes to fill.
